Food: J's Restaurant

The cosy interior is really a wonderful and romantic place for small groups or couples.

Located at Purvis Street, J's serves modern European cuisine greatly influenced by a Latin flair. For us both, we have no idea what to expect. @amsyarstifler wanted to surprise me by bringing us both here for our anniversary dinner. (But as usual, the surprise failed along the way there because I'm a good guesser ;p)

Following our iOS maps, we were led to this small and cosy restaurant distinguished by the purple signboard in front. Although it was a normal weekday, the restaurant was packed with diners and several tables had reservation signs too.

Therefore, make sure to chope your place beforehand HERE or via their website especially if you're planning a visit on a weekend or on special occasions such as Valentines' Day.

Back to the food, we ordered Jalapeño Poppers! as our appetizers, Chicken Quesadillas for our main and for our dessert we chose the Bocas Negras which is basically a chocolate lava cake served with chocolate ice cream. Other favourites from their menu would include their paella (available as single or double serving) and churros served with mango mascarpone.

While waiting for the food to be served, we exchanged gifts. :)
A pop-up card I made for him.
A cardholder he made for me :')

Everything was served hot and really lovely for the tummy. I could feel the sincerity in the food we tasted and even the presentation was top-notched. We totally have no complaints and their serving size is HUGE too!

Poppers ($17)
Served with side salad and guacamole + salsa dips.
The poppers are basically jalapeño peppers stuffed with mozzarella. It wasn't as spicy as he worries it to be. The heat of the pepper plus the hotness of the gushing mozzarella was a killer combo. This is definitely a great appetiser for us because it made us super excited for our main.

It's a big serving for one! We're glad we chose to share.
Chicken Quesadillas ($22)
Served with side salad and sour cream + salsa dips.
The quesadillas were really filling and you can also substitute the chicken for beef at an additional of $2. The flavours are all in harmony with one another and I can totally imagine every single bite singing their way into my tummy. hehe :p

Bocas Negras ($12)
Chocolate Lava cake with fresh berries on edible soil, citrus espuma, chocolate ice cream and sesame tuille.

I hope we're not being mean by showing you this video...

They helped me packed our leftover chicken quesadilla for me to bring to work cos we were already too full. And even after heating it up in the microwave, the smell and taste of herbs and cheese still makes me salivate.
Complimentary selfie from us both. lol

Overall, we really recommend you to try J's Restaurant at least once. They're halal-certified and they cater to vegetarians too! Price-wise, it may seem a bit pricey at first glance but it's all worth it based on the quality of the food served and the serving size.

To tell you the truth, as I'm writing this post, I am seriously craving some of their quesadillas :'(

Hope you liked reading our first food review! Let us know what you think and do let us know of nice restaurants or cafés which we could try out in the future :)

Till next time,
Happy eating!
