Food: The Lab SG

Personally, I work as a Production Scientist so imagine my excitement when a laboratory themed cafe opened in Singapore! I have been seeing tons of interesting pictures on Instagram since their opening so it was a pleasure that Mr @amsyarstifler decided to bring us there one fine afternoon.

The Lab Sg from outside
LOVE THE DESIGN!
Located at Jalan Pisang (full location and website listed below), many would know this as the street which houses the famous cupcakes from Fluff Bakery. The Lab is located at the corner and quite easily distinguished by the sign and graffiti by the side.

The Entrées Menu - the level of spiciness for The Lab Drumlets cracks me up. Yek Eleh hahaha
I don't really know how to describe their menu but everything was different than the usual cafe fare. For example, they have sweet potato fries instead of the usual truffle fries made with potatoes. But hey, you gotta EXPERIMENT right? :)

Cupcakes ($4 each) from Fluff Bakery. The heart from their RVC dropped off :(
So while we waited for our food to arrive, i took out the two cupcakes I bought from Fluff Bakery for some selfies. hee. These cost $4 each, while really delicious and unlike normal cupcakes (eg from Twelve Cupcakes), I don't think I would buy them again. But again, I'm not much of a dessert person.

Liege Waffles ($10.00)
We didn't mind getting our dessert coming at the same time as our main and for him, he ordered their Liege Waffles. It's unlike the usual crispy waffles that we're used to, these are on the soft side and 'heavier' in texture. Served with vanilla bean ice cream and fruit coulis, everything works well on the plate together. However, the apple chips served on top was a miss - the texture was rubbery and unlike chips. Maybe it was just lao hong.

Heisenberger ($15.00) -
6oz of homemade beef patty with turkey bacon, caramelised onion, tomato coulis, mesclun salad topped with melted blue cheese.
Their burger was tasty but I felt that it wasn't exactly spectacular. I loved the caramelised onions with the juicy patty but it was not as big as we imagined. Maybe because it was put alongside quite a larger side serving of sweet potato fries for comparison. The sweet potatoes used were the purple kind and it made us both weirdly happy. haha
The Mad Scientist :p

Hazelnut Chocolate ($6.00) - Loved how they serve their drinks in beakers! And i love their tables!
Because we had been seeing photos of drinks with syringes, we decided that we would definitely try one of them! The hazelnut syrup wasn't my fav, i felt like it had an artificial taste to it, but it was still drinkable. This was probably the most 'sciency' item found on their menu which we got our hands on.

Matcha Latte ($5.50)
I felt their matcha latte was great! He wasn't much of a green tea lover so he couldn't judge. :)
Yek eleh... hahahah
Their counter. Lovely ambience
We stayed at the cafe for quite a while to just chat and snap photos. The interior was cosy and it had a very inviting atmosphere. As a laboratory themed cafe, it didn't look much like a real lab. (I was imagining tables like our school labs, maybe more lab glassware, weighing scales and bunsen burners, lol)

Ernest Zacharevic's artwork along Victoria Street
And since it was located near Victoria Street, we stopped by the side of the road for me to take photos of the girl with the lion cub done by the talented Ernest Zacharevic.

We spent $36++ in total, not that cheap but it was okay for cafe fare. It was indeed a fun and slightly different experience for us and I wouldn't mind coming again to try out their other food items and drinks. The cafe is also probably great for small group outings as they have quite a fun medley of appetisers such as mussels and chicken drumlets plus did i forget to mention that it's Halal too?

Four thumbs up from the both of us!
Do check them out :)
