It has been some time since our last post but fret not, we have some exciting posts coming up the next few weeks! But for today, we are going to show you more about MacRitchie HSBC Tree Top Walk!
It was a Saturday and we were feeling very restless at home (we usually feel restless on weekends if we don't make any plans), so we thought, why not go on the treetop walk at MacRitchie? We had talked about it on several occasions but it was always either too late in the afternoon (the gate closes at 5pm) or we were not in the right attire.
So here we go! You can reach TreeTop walk either from:
-MacRitchie Reservoir Park - 4.5km (1.5 - 2 hour walk) OR
-Carpark at Venus Drive off Upper Thomson Road - 2.5km (45mins - 1 hr walk)
Remember that they're closed on Mondays and the last entry is at 4.45pm.
Either way, it will be quite a distance which is a good way to burn off some fats! And the round trip including the TreeTop Walk will take about 3-5 hours depending on your walking pace.
BUT FIRST! :p
I thought it was a great colour combination. hahah
Don't feed the 'monkey'.
It's best to wear comfortable clothing and suitable shoes. Of course we wouldn't stop you if you want to try getting through the journey in your heels ;) We did see some ladies in skirts, dresses and heels. *salutes*
I really love those dried leaves surrounding us. Feels kinda romantic. HAH HA.
Uneven ground - Watch your step!
We were on the lookout for the Ranger Station, because that is the only way to reach our destination. Not to worry, there are many mini signs pointing to TreeTop Walk. We didn't get lost so you probably won't too.
There are many signs like these to guide your way. They're usually on the ground so do look out for them.
Almost there...
We found the Ranger Station. There are wash rooms over here if you need a toilet break. There's also some watercoolers here - Bring your water bottles!
Found the monkey! Hehe
This was the last bit before we saw....
YES! We're here at the TreeTop Walk!
As you can see, there's a sign saying "One-Way Only - Please Do Not Turn Back". There are many of these signs around to keep reminding you. However, there are several areas of the trail in which the walkway is large enough to allow others to pass. Which is sometimes needed when you wish to take photos or need to catch your breath. heh
Some facts and figures about the suspension bridge.
Stepping on the suspension bridge... We were in awe but didn't know what to expect yet.
As you can see, there's really NO TURNING BACK once you're in.
Another BUT FIRST... haha.
The 250m long suspension bridge is surprisingly sturdy. I was expecting it to be scary - maybe sway a little in the wind or have us walking on wood planks but nope! You'll be very safe from up here. The sides are netted so you won't likely be able to slip your foot through and there are railings for you to hold on too if you want.
By the way, the word is acrophobia. Never thought you'll have a mini English lesson on this blog too, eh? :D
But even if you're afraid of heights, the view is much too beautiful to run away from. A tip from me if you're afraid of heights - Look up, look around, but never look down. Haha.
Taking a wefie blindly because it was too bright to open our eyes.
Awesome!
His GoPro captures a wide angle, which we both really like :)
It was a bright cloudy day - Just perfect.
And we asked two ladies to take a wefie with us! It was something new for us (taking photo together with strangers) and both of them were so sporting. :D Don't think we'll meet them again though.
And hey... what? It ended? Awww man...
250m on a bridge isn't that long of a journey. So remember to take your time, enjoy the view, take photos and admire the wonderful architecture of the bridge (which is able to hold you up high above the trees). :) BREATHE DEEPLY TOO cos you probably won't get any better air in Singapore than way up there. Haha
I spotted this on our way back. I have a keen eyesight for anything that looks suspiciously like a cockroach. I don't know what is this though.
All in all, we really recommend you to visit this place. It's a way of exercising and most importantly, you'll be spending quality time with your friends, family and/or partner. It's a very rewarding experience when you get to enjoy a great view after tiring yourselves out.
Even after you have reached the main highlight of your trip, there are interesting things to see along the way as well.
Look out for signboards such as these for some activities to do on your way back.
And here's a short clip by us, it's quite silly actually...
So get up, get walking, and give your partner a HIGH FIVE when you're up there! :)
