Prata turned 'hipster' aka Plaster Blaster

Prata is like every Singaporean's staple food. Don't know what to eat for breakfast? There's prata. Wanna have supper but not macs? There's prata. Prata comes in many forms too, tissue prata, egg prata, prata kosong or even instant prata (you can cook them at home to satisfy your cravings anytime). And then there's pratas cousins like murtabak, thosai and the long lost nephew chapati and naan.

Today was one of the night we need something after work to fill our tummies before bed. Along the route home, we passed by Railway Mall and since there were some eateries open, we thought we could have a look. Must be like magic or something because there it was - Springleaf Prata!

The place was packed even at 11+pm, mostly with groups of youngsters (us included :p) We weren't sure what to eat because the menu wasn't descriptive and there wasn't any pictures. Therefore, we head to our reliable Foursquare and Instagram for pictures and hopefully some recommendations.

One of the things mostly instagram-ed was their Plaster Blaster. It is basically a prata with 2 pieces of turkey ham, topped with a poached egg and hollandaise sauce. Think eggs benedict but prata version.

The mayonnaise probably looks unappetising here but damn everything was perfect.

We also came at a time whereby they were doing some photography shots of their menu to help visual customers like us who needs pictures to make our meal choices. Hehe. The guys were helpful and recommended Plaster Blaster as something that would be suitable for supper if we were to share between us both. Their murtaburger or umami-50 would be too much for such a late night meal.

The prata was good. Hollandaise sauce is surprisingly perfect. I forgot to mention, their plaster blaster comes with the usual serving of curry! Their curry is fragrant and chunky which we both really liked.

Overall, we spent $6.50 for our prata and bandung. Price wise it is definitely affordable and we will indeed come visit again to try out their other specials :) last order is at 11.30pm (they close at 12) so it's an ideal supper place *thumbs up*

Overall it was a good supper session. Service is good and place is lively. Not to forget that The Rail Mall is a nostalgic place to visit in Singapore. In the day, you could climb up the railway track if you're feeling adventurous ;)

It's also nice to see something like prata turned 'hipster' and different, but prata in all definitions is always good. We'll definitely visit again to try out their other Specials! :)

Activity: Singapore Night Festival 2015

The Anooki Celebrate Singapore

By now everyone would probably have known about the currently ongoing yearly night festival. This is the 8th time this event of arts is held in Singapore.The Night Fest will be held for 2 consecutive weekends - 21st & 22nd Aug and the week after, 28th and 29th August.

The guides and pamphlets provide detailed information on the art installments plus lets you know what's going on for the night!

We tried out Momolato's Australian Mango sorbet popsicle. Refreshing!

I brought my sisters for the first week's exhibitions. We did arrive quite late into the night (9++pm) at Bras Basah MRT Station and by then, a throng of crowd had already gathered to watch some performance in front of the Singapore Art Museum. We gave it a pass since there were too many people.

The first arts showcase we went to was at the Chapel in SAM. The place was so mesmerising. Lots of people were taking selfies under these lights and from my pic, you could see that most of them were mesmerised by them. LOL

Project Dreamcatchers 2015 illustrates what it's like to live with chronic illness.

The entrance to Project Dreamcatchers was lovely and different as we were guided by a trail of blue paper planes.

Secret Message

We Are Family.

My favourite installment from The Learning Gallery - Once Upon This Island was The Hidden Dimension II. It's a video/animation of a family going about their daily habits until they were interrupted by something which made them all stop at the same time in different parts of the house. You gotta catch the dad taking potato chips out of his mouth as the video loops backwards. XD

Some of my favourite scenes from 'Cabinet'

Titled 'Cabinet', this is one of my favourites. There were these rows of what seem like lockers with holes and light in them. Upon a peek into these holes, there were very detailed scenes. Everyone of them shows an entirely different world. 

'No More Tears Mr Lee' was made with 8000 plastic bottle shampoo caps, a nice play of Johnson's baby products.

One of the most instagram-ed photo/video are of The Anooki! - these hyper Inuits running across our National Museum. I managed to get my instagram-worthy video as well :p

Our exploration was limited to SAM as we wanted to catch the last train home :) It was something new for my sisters

The museums are also open till late (up till 1am for most) so it will be something different than your usual late night hangouts :) There are also activities, light installations, shows and concerts! For me, I'll definitely be coming again this weekend as I still havent finish exploring and seeing everything. Heh :D

Adventure: Bike ride to Malacca

A rider will always be a rider. That's the phrase of what a rider will tell anyone who doesn't own a bike. And what does a rider do when you have a road and a bike? Exploring, and of course ride to its fullest. 

On the 27th Dec 2014. @Redzstarkiss and I joined a fellow group, SGSuperRiders on a tour to Malacca. 

It would be our 2nd trip up north on a bike in Malaysia. Malaysia being a country full of flora and fauna is the best place to go as they cater to alot of beautiful sceneries from mountains to tropical forest. 

Since the date catered to both our off day, its a great opportunity for us not only to enjoy the trip but also to meet new friends from different backgrounds but sharing the same passion. 

Our starting point

We started the journey after 'B Point' which is right after Shell. As you can see, those enthusiastic riders are with high spirits despite their bike being small. Size doesn't matter in this group as we all have a similar goal in mind. To enjoy and also to experience touring. 

We were armed by my Majestic BMW F700GS which is a 800cc twin cylinder engine. Not only it is a off-road bike but its also a touring bike. Fully geared up with our full-faced helmets and communication devices, we'll not be bored throughout the trip. 

It took us more than 2 1/2 hours to reach the above destination due to pit stops and our riding speed. We're comfortable with it as I'm not a speedster myself. 

The waiting time at their traffic lights can be up to 3 minutes

Malacca is a city full of history. The only problem they have would be the awesome traffic jams that took us a hefty time to reach our destination. Once we've reached our pit-stop, opening our helmets was sure an awesome feeling. The feeling of achievement! 

Everyone was given a shirt and we customised our names on it. Unique huh!

Lunch at A&W

Time was a constraint as it was only a day event. Spending 2 hours in Malacca wasn't enough for us to explore and do a review of a cafe we had planned to visit. But it's ok. A&W for lunch is a must as this restaurant was long extinct in Singapore. 

We did utilised that 2 hours by exploring around. Snapping photos as we are actually tourists. 

Rain!

The journey back home was a killer. Well, as a rider myself, I always try to avoid riding in the rain. But sadly, we do not have a choice. It was pouring rain all the way back to Singapore. It took us 6 hours back due to the slow traffic, pitch dark highway and torturous rain. It was an experience for me as not only it was cold, I had to utilise my concentration fully on the road. Plus keeping my pillion awake at all times too :)

To SGSuperRiders, thank you. It was an experience riding in a big group. To the Marshals, you guys kept us safe throughout the journey. And, if there are any upcoming events, do keep us updated as we are "Up for Anything". 

To our readers, there is a saying. Achieve as much as we can while we're young. As we age and gets older, it would be tough but it is still possible. 

To my fiancé Redzstarkiss, thank you for being the best awesome pillion rider. Part of my dream of going touring with you once again is achieved.

Activity: Nightscape Shooting

This is an alternative activity for those late nights. Other than the prata suppers, shisha-ing (hookah) and pubbing/clubbing. 

Things you need for this activity:

- A camera

- A tripod

- An excellent buddy who will take turns in helping to carry the stuffs :p

Sometime last year I had this assignment for school in which I was supposed to take a panoramic photo of Singapore's night skyline. It was quite an exciting task because:

1. I have never tried something quite like this. 
2. I had just bought myself a second-hand Canon 500D
3. It gives me an excuse to give my parents to be able to go out late at night. Haha!

Thinking about Singapore's skyline, you will undoubtedly think of Marina Bay Sands, The Esplanade, and our very own 'Ferris wheel', The Singapore Flyer. All these photos were taken sometime in May 2013.

What you had to do is to actually take a series of photographs as above - each photo should have an overlap of about 20% between adjoining frames. You can't use your camera's auto settings for this. Using Photoshop or any other editing programs you can easily find online, just stitch them together and wait for it...

TADAA! (Actually it's not as simple as described above. LOL)

After I'm happy and tired with the shots we had taken (because I'll be graded for this), we decided to set up the tripod but this time for ourselves. :) It was already close to 2am and there were very few people around so we didn't have to feel awkward or paiseh.

We didn't imagine that it would be so fun. It's like having our very own photoshoot with the scenery behind us. (Actually you can see most of the buildings had their lights out by now). After that we walked around and looked for things which we can see at that particular hour.

Of course all the shops were closed.

We then headed to Marina Bay Sands. It was my first time in there so I was quite fascinated with how reflective the floor is. HAHA

  

We headed up to the 57th floor because well, there's not many choices we had since most of the floors require room passes to access them.And we were greeted by this beautiful view!! It's almost as shiok as being on the topmost floor. I had problems taking a better photo because of the reflections. Both of us were so tired by then but the view was certainly a wonderful end to our day. :)By the way, if you wanna catch the light show, you can view them every night at 8.30pm and 9pm. And on Saturdays, there is another show at 11pm too. You can find more information about the Marina Bay Sands Light and Water Show HERE (pretty awesome pictures!)

These photos of the MBS light show were taken using my iPhone 5. Quality was not good at all so I did some editing to them :p These were taken near the Merlion at Merlion Park.

Overall, it was a memorable outing for the both of us. What drove me to write this post was when he recently mentioned that he missed this particular time we had our night shooting. :)
