Canva Practice + Free Digital Paper

I suddenly felt like blogging again.

And who knows, this time round I'm here to stay eh?

So.. We're blessed with a 2nd child, another boy! The last few weeks have been mostly me snuggling with him in the daytime and staying up at night just to have a bit of me-time and regain my sanity (by playing Nintendo switch haha).

I'm going to work in 1 more week.. i think it could be the reason why i'm suddenly having this a moment of clarity that I NEED and WANT to do something before my maternity leave ends.

It's not perfect but it's done.
Like how the grid is actually not equally divided in thirds...

I wanted to learn Canva so i created my first Pinterest template. i actually created real printables :) The digital paper is designed on Procreate and it can be used them in instagram, as wallpaper or anything really. They are of high-res quality too, so they can be printed out as well.

I'm was excited to design more things with Canva.

So i tried out my digital paper and also created some templates .

With the coming year, most of us had set some resolutions (my resolution is not to have any resolutions) and I wish us good luck on that! Activity: Make Your Own Terrarium

So, what is a terrarium?

I've always wanted to create a terrarium of my own and my mini dream came true when UNISIM offered a 'Make Your Own Terrarium' workshop held by Little Green Pot.

Early Saturday morning

The workshop was only a short 1 hour so you can definitely tell that making a terrarium of your own isn't hard work. But i can tell you that the workshop definitely opened my eyes to the world of miniature plants.

The workshop instructor was also really good. He provided useful details and information (so that our terrarium wouldn't die by the next week :p). Theory-wise, it was a short jog of memory to my Plant Biotechnology days in Singapore Poly.

The 'ingredients' - Small gravel, charcoal, soil, decorative pebbles and decoration

Before the hands-on, we had a mini theory session. A terrarium may live as short as 3 days to 3 years depending on how well it is maintained. (Which is really little as it is self-sustainable). These are the 5 useful tips I've learnt from the workshop:

1. Keep the environment closed: A terrarium is self-sustainable meaning the entire water cycle and photosynthesis process will happen within the jar without any external help.
2. No direct sunlight: Natural light is enough. Office desks work as well.
3. Minimal water required: Only water once every 6 months.
4. Condensation is normal. If big droplets appear, air the container for around 15 mins
5. Once the plant is too big for the container, you can either:

           - Trim the plant

           - Open the top and grow as an open condition

           - Leave as it is, the plant will find a way to grow within the container

Our hands on sessions was facilitated and we followed the steps together.
The workshop instructor was there to make sure that we're doing it right and good enough.

My favourite part was when we had to dig a hole as big as possible for our plant to be placed in. Soil was then scooped in from the sides to make sure that the roots are fully covered.

The challenging part was to flatten the soil around the plant. This will make sure that the plant stay rooted and stably upright. I had uprooted my plant once during this process HAHA but luckily i managed to get it nicely covered again without destroying my plant. 

I love this tool, it's like a stirrer but with a flat scoop used to flatten the soil.

The next step is simple - DECORATE! We were given colourful decorative pebbles and a mini deco item each. And then it's done! It's so simple right?

I really loved the workshop and I would recommend it to everyone. You don't even have to have green fingers and the maintenance required is almost none! These mini gardens are definitely pleasing to the eye and will make a wonderful decoration for home or office.

I am planning to decorate my future house with them! heh :D

Activity: Singapore Night Festival 2015

The Anooki Celebrate Singapore

By now everyone would probably have known about the currently ongoing yearly night festival. This is the 8th time this event of arts is held in Singapore.The Night Fest will be held for 2 consecutive weekends - 21st & 22nd Aug and the week after, 28th and 29th August.

The guides and pamphlets provide detailed information on the art installments plus lets you know what's going on for the night!

Grab your handy dandy guide books/pamphlets because they're super useful! You can also view or print the online version via their website HERE.

We tried out Momolato's Australian Mango sorbet popsicle. Refreshing!

I brought my sisters for the first week's exhibitions. We did arrive quite late into the night (9++pm) at Bras Basah MRT Station and by then, a throng of crowd had already gathered to watch some performance in front of the Singapore Art Museum. We gave it a pass since there were too many people.

Mirror bombs - So bling bling

The first arts showcase we went to was at the Chapel in SAM. The place was so mesmerising. Lots of people were taking selfies under these lights and from my pic, you could see that most of them were mesmerised by them. LOL

Project Dreamcatchers 2015 illustrates what it's like to live with chronic illness.

The entrance to Project Dreamcatchers was lovely and different as we were guided by a trail of blue paper planes.

Secret Message

We Are Family.

My favourite installment from The Learning Gallery - Once Upon This Island was The Hidden Dimension II. It's a video/animation of a family going about their daily habits until they were interrupted by something which made them all stop at the same time in different parts of the house. You gotta catch the dad taking potato chips out of his mouth as the video loops backwards. XD

Some of my favourite scenes from 'Cabinet'

Titled 'Cabinet', this is one of my favourites. There were these rows of what seem like lockers with holes and light in them. Upon a peek into these holes, there were very detailed scenes. Everyone of them shows an entirely different world. 

'No More Tears Mr Lee' was made with 8000 plastic bottle shampoo caps, a nice play of Johnson's baby products.

We surrrender! Kidding.

One of the most instagram-ed photo/video are of The Anooki! - these hyper Inuits running across our National Museum. I managed to get my instagram-worthy video as well :p

Our exploration was limited to SAM as we wanted to catch the last train home :) It was something new for my sisters

The museums are also open till late (up till 1am for most) so it will be something different than your usual late night hangouts :) There are also activities, light installations, shows and concerts! For me, I'll definitely be coming again this weekend as I still havent finish exploring and seeing everything. Heh :D

Exploration: Paddy Hills Cafe

Psst. This is not a food review.

Located at South Buona Vista, Paddy Hills is a newly opened cafe. I was excited because it was so near to my workplace at Science Park plus.. I have been seeing on instagram that they have a funky art wall too!

The exterior looks simple and welcoming.

The interior was cosy and since we reached around 10am on a weekday, the whole place almost belongs to just us!

We're not coffee experts but they have a few coffee blends for you to choose from.

The ambience was cosy and we spent a few hours just chatting and spending our morning together. Those are the perks of working shifts for the both of us, we get to enjoy breakfasts and brunches together if we're both not working :)

The lighting is perfect for selfies! :D

So that's for the cafe, what about the art wall which i mentioned about earlier on?

It was a wonderful experience for the both of us and since it is close by, we might just visit again! Do show us if you took any selfies here too!

Activity: Madame Tussauds Museum Singapore

Ever wished maybe of meeting the Prime Minister, your favorite artist or celebrity? In our lifetime, we may not have the chance to meet all or even one of them. But at Madame Tussauds Museum it can become a reality, with a little bit of imagination! hehe. And the realistic wax figures really make everything believable.

We reached a little after 4pm so we had some time to explore around Sentosa before we head to the museum which closes at 8pm.

We got our tickets at $25 each (Usual price $35 which includes Images of Singapore Live Ticket ) with SAFRA card. Otherwise you can also book tickets online for $32 each.

The Madame Tussauds Museum in Singapore is divided into 8 main sections:

1. Spirit of Singapore (Boat Ride)
2. History & Leaders
3. Sports
4. Behind the Scenes
5. TV
6. Music
7. Film, and
8. A-List Party

SPIRIT OF SINGAPORE

Before you get to explore the inside of the museum, you'll be relaxing in a boat ride titled 'Spirit of Singapore' as part of the museum trip. It was a little too rushed and not very memorable though I remembered having a glimpse of our F1 Singapore Night Race. You'll only get to ride it once and lighting was not very good for photography so we just decided to sit back and enjoy the ride.

Before starting on the main museum walk, we were invited to take a photograph with some props. You can of course purchase the pictures at the end and keep them as souvenirs :)

HISTORY & LEADERS

Us with the historical leaders of Asia. Yusof Ishak looks just like his counterpart in our dollar notes! :D

In this section, you'll also get to 'meet' our current political leaders : Senior Minister Lee Kuan Yew and his late wife, ESM Goh Chok Tong & our PM Lee Hsien Loong. There are also interactive quizzes in the same room to engage everyone in mini activities.

SPORTS

The next few sections are more interactive - you'll get to play with props and also pose with your favourite celebrities! This is where the fun really starts and you'll be surprised at the amount of time you can spend within the museum without realising.

Well, Beckham doesn't seem to mind...

Boxing with Muhammad Ali. There's even a gong nearby for you to do the 'ting-ting' sound before the match starts :D

Shoot hoops with Yao Ming and make a hole-in-one with Tiger Woods. Here's Fandi when he was much younger and have i mentioned that Christiano Ronaldo looks sooo handsome here? ;)

BEHIND THE SCENES

Here, you'll be learning a lot of facts regarding how a wax figure is made. You'll be surprised at the amount of work and effort needed to make one wax person! They even get donations of clothings and accessories from the person himself / herself to style the figurine up to great detail.

In this section, you will also get to create your own Wax Hands cast as a memento.

If i'm not wrong, it's $12 for a person and $20 for a couple's hands.

It's a numbing experience followed by dipping your hand in hot wax.

Too bad we didn't get a photo of our 'artwork' and the wax hands have become a sad bundle of wax by now (even though we kept it in the right conditions as they advised).

TV

YELLOW BOOTS FOR EVERYONE!!!

Don't forget to don your yellow boots and take a snapshot with Phua Chu Kang! (The boots are located in a 'treasure chest' by the side if you don't see them lying around) You'll also meet the likes of Zoe Tay and Oprah Winfrey here with many props to play with too! :)

MUSIC

Taylor Swift looks super red hot right here.

I'm not sure if they're 'measured to scale' based on height. If yes, I'm so short! :(

The music section is also where you get to play with a lot of props and even play in a band (haha).

Bounce off the tunes with Elvis and get in gear with so many weird props available!

This was also one of my favourite sections in the museum and we spent a lot of time here dancing awkwardly with Elvis and taking silly photos with the props. The level of details put into each of the figurines is admirable, just look at Beyonce's clothing sequins and tattoo below!

Next, we headed to the Film Section. We'll let the pictures do the talking...

A-LIST PARTY

This section was quite mundane for us but it's okay because we were already quite exhausted by now. Hehe, pardon our old legs.

The funniest and most fun prop was the piano at the centre of the section though!

Overall it was really a fun experience and the ticket price of $23 for Safra Members makes it all the more worth it! It's the closest Madame Tussauds Wax Museum that we get to visit right here in our own island of Singapore and we really recommend for everyone to come here at least once to see what the hype is about throughout the whole world.
